What worked:

Paying up for two high-end running backs – On a week were many in the industry were deciding whether to pay up for Zeke or Barkley as their RB we decided to lock in the high floor and guaranteed usage for both multi-use running backs and roster them together. Both RBs were able to take full advantage of premium match ups as Zeke ran for 122 yards and a TD while adding 7 catches for 79 yards against a Falcons team that has been lit up by pass-catching RBs, while Saquon rushed for 142 yards and two TD’s against a Bucs team we have targeted all year long.

Kenny Golladay – With Marvin Jones out and Golden Tate traded we looked to roster Kenny Golladay against a Panthers team that has show pass funnel tendencies and is allowing one of the highest aDOTs in the league this year. We love to target high volume, high aDOT WRs and performance met our expectations here as Golladay received 15 targets that he convered into 8 catches for 113 yards and a touchdown.

What didn’t work:

Even on winning weeks, we strive for perfection and always like to take a look back on some of the predictions that didn’t materialize:

Titans Players – So far this year the Colts have allowed a higher than league average pass catching rate to opposing RBs as well as a higher than average catch rate to opposing WRs, preferring to play strong run defense and keep passing plays in front of them and tackle well. Based on this along with trending usage on the Titans, this game appeared to profile well for Lewis over Derick Henry as well as higher volume for Corey Davis as the Titans would likely need to keep up with Andrew Luck and the high-powered Colts offense. However, this did not materialize as the Colts jumped out to a big early lead and Marcus Mariota was injured and left the game in the first half. Behind their backup QB, the Titans decided to mail the remainder of the game in with conservative play calling and a lack of pace with resulted in poor weeks for the two Titans players we rostered.

Ricky Seal-Jones– In order to roster both Zeke and Barkley we had to find some salary relief, and Ricky Seals-Jones at near minimum price on DK after a couple high-target games was our preferred option. However, when rostering a player on the league’s worst offense, poor games are always within the expected range of outcomes. Although we got no production from RSJ, the salary he opened up to allow us to take the two highest scoring backs on the slate was useful in helping us cash across all formats.
